Do you have a new CD or project that you would like to tell the world about? Well you have come to the right place!

The PORTAL Magazine is a bi-monthly publication that has featured massive acts such as Megadeth, SIXX:A.M., Goo Goo Dolls, Stone Sour, Shinedown, Disturbed, Billy Gibbons and the list goes on and on. We are also proud to stick to our roots and feature numerous Indie bands and artists.  As a result of featuring such household names in music, we receive approximately 150,000 hits to our website every month.

We invite ROCK based bands or artists to submit for consideration, their new music for review and exposure.  Your review would be posted in the Editor’s Picks section of our website.

Please note that we request a small fee of $5 for each published review; this is a small participation helping us with the running cost of the magazine. Please send the links to your material and profiles for review to reviews@theportalmagazine.com

Bikini Robot Army

Things could be worse for Val Broeksmit, who has not only directed, produced, or acted in his own short films and commercials,  he was also the Director of Photography for "Hells Kitchen" in 2007, Val is also the founder of Bikini Robot Army one of the first rock and roll internet file sharing produced bands.

Gaining the attention of Keith Richards and Moby, the album Old Soldiersis anything but mainstream with its Indie, Rock, and Dance infused sound.
Originally known as Good Time Charlie and already making an impressive stint on the New York scene, Val Broeksmit takes Bikini Robot Army to the next level, and with songs like "Joe Strummers house", and "Things Could Be Worse" it's no wonder why some of his other special guests also include David Bowie and Andrew Jarecki.

As one listens to the latest release from Gandalf’s Fist, Road to Darkness, it’s easy to ask, “What would Tolkien say?” With a pint of Mead in hand, (as suggested by, Gandalfsfist.com), one might the answer: He would say; “Hell Yes!” And proceed to rock his socks off!

Well, Breaching Vista, what can I say? They happen to be four blokes from Ontario who can write a seamless song, to be certain.  The entire 13 track album, Vera City is a quick and dirty lesson on how to start and finish something without really losing your way. Interesting changes and a seriously boss rhythm section added some zap for me. It is a decidedly emo pop aesthetic but tight, dulcet guitars, double-kick and occasional African-folk inspired back-up seem to make good neighbours. Who knew?

That being said, certain sections brought me back to [...]

A Breath Of Fresh Air!

Three words came to mind the instant I heard the first beat from Silentpanic’s five track EP The Red Pill, an experimental Indie rock band hailing from Alberta, Canada.

Turn it up … was all I could think, all I could do, I was immediately taken with their throw back sound of the 90’s, keeping to true rock form, Silentpanic seems to stem directly from bands like Creed, The Tea Party, and Finger Eleven with their prominent guitars and loud drums.

“Gone” is a refreshing glimpse into what this band has to offer [...]

In the current climate of singles being the drawing power in bringing in new ears for new music, the concept of whole album sales have been on the decline. This is in part due to entities like iTunes and the sort gaining a greater market share compared to retailers of tangible records like Best Buy. In fact, record stores inside local malls have gone the way of the horse and carriage. Sure, you still see them, but mostly in a novelty sort of manner.

This brings me to my review of Half Drawn’s Breaking Free LP, released this past June. Different from prior generations of reviews [...]
