
Welcome Reception
As a welcome for media and special guests, several Juno nominees (and later winners) performed at a special reception hosted at The Royal York Ballroom. Backed by house band, The Beauties, Die Mannequin frontwoman, Care Failure took the stage to sing the Neil Young classic, “Southern Man”, while Aboriginal Album of the Year nominee, Derek Miller entertained with a stellar version of Jeff Healey’s “See The Light”. Also entertaining at this special invite only event was Kellylee Evans, who took home a Juno for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year with Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” and Country Album of the Year nominee, Dean Brody singing Tal Bachman’s “She’s So High”. Other highlights of the two hour presentation were New Artist of the Year Juno winner, Meaghan Smith, Rap Recording of the Year nominee, Ghettosocks with the pioneer of Canadian Rap, Maestro Fresh-Wes’ “Let Your Backbone Slide”, Roots & Traditional Album of the Year: Solo nominee, Justin Rutledge and finally, Lyndon John X, nominated for Raggae Recording of the Year paying homage to The Tragically Hip with “New Orleans Is Sinking”.
