Day eight of the Calgary Stampede welcomed California native, singer/songwriter, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals to the Coca-Cola Stage.
The evening started with local artist, and rising star, JJ Shiplett opening the show with his upbeat and friendly country/roots/rock vibe. JJ’s career has been on a steady climb since the 2016 4-track release, The EP. In January of this year, he re-released those four tracks, plus an additional seven songs on his first full-length album, Something to Believe In. Since then, he’s been a very busy guy, and very much in demand.
The hometown crowd was very appreciative, and gave him a very warm welcome as he performed such favorites as “Something to Believe In”, “Higher Ground” and “Darling, Let’s Go Out Tonight”.
Then it was time for headliner, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals. Ben has been on a whirlwind tour, in support of his latest release, Call It What It is, since the end of April, and he’s still on the road till September.
Ben’s easy going, blues and reggae infused folk music is a joy to listen to, and you can’t help but sway or tap your toe to his music.
After an hour song set, Ben closed out the night with the mega-hit, “Steal My Kisses”, from his 1999 album, Burn To Shine.
