Opening up with “Follow Me Down” seemed appropriate and got their cult like loyalists screaming at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles. TPR followed that up with “Since You’re Gone”, but it wasn’t until the fourth song, “Make Me Wanna Die” that had the blood rushing through the veins, causing the euphoric sensations we’ve all been waiting for!!  Ben Phillips, on lead guitar sharpens the overall sound, while bassist, Mark Damon and Jamie Perkins on drums carries the band with cool bass lines and precision beats.  Nothing fancy here … Just straight forward rock that keeps coming with supplies of visual sexiness from Momsen and subliminal messages in the form of a care package.  It’s just something you take home with you, and you want more. The 14-song set list provided exactly what we wanted to see and expect from TPR.  The band definitely on the rise, you’ll most likely see The Pretty Reckless grace bigger stages higher up on the totem pole.  It’s a show you don’t want to miss.  I’m a fan!!!

Now as far as the venue, The Mayan Theater in Los Angeles … Albeit great sound and lighting, the Live Nation run venue staff refused to let me, or for that matter any of the four photographers into the pit to shoot any of the bands, even the openers, and even with a photo pass??  When pro photographers are brought in to photograph a band for publication, it’s in the venues best interest to let them get coverage … Because guess what?  I’m writing about it.  Why wouldn’t you want the extra “Positive” exposure?  This was a first for me.  I’ve never been denied the pit to shoot except here at The Mayan Theater.  Because of this I probably won’t cover another band performing there.  If I didn’t have my long-range lens, I wouldn’t have shot the show. I ended up with a few decent pics.

In short, great sound, awesome lighting, cool place to see a show … However Crappy Staff !!!
