The stage was empty as images of albums played across the video wall, ending with the siamese twins lighting a Smashing Pumpkins heart in flames. Corgan emerged with a a black acoustic guitar with a silver star opening with “Disarm”. As he sang, childhood photos and home videos were projected behind him; words like ‘broken boy” were laid over images of him.
The rest of the band, guitarist James Iha, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, guitarist Jeff Schroeder, bassist Jack Bates and keyboardist Katie Cole, joined Corgan on stage as they moved into “Rocket”James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin along with longtime Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder, bassist Jack Bates and keyboardist Katie Cole.
It was a marathon performance as the band played over thirty songs, with lots from fan favourites, Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, as well as several covers including a phenomenal rendition of the late David Bowie’s “Space Odity”.
A phenomenal performance that was adored by fans in attendance.
