It should come as no surprise to anyone that the smell of weed was in the air you approached the Saddledome. Not simply because of Canada’s recent legalization of marijuana, but because rap legend and marijuana entrepreneur Snoop Dogg was in town with a crew of rappers including Afroman, Kurupt, Warren G, and Bone Thugs.

The night started off with Afroman and his giant chalice, which we swapped out for dirty jokes, and a double neck guitar during his set, which has people singing along to “Because I Got High”. It started off a fun night with a chill vibe, and an almost tongue and cheek swagger, that you couldn’t help by love.

Kurupt was the next to take the stage, and the show switched gears picking up the pace, as the Philly born rapper delivered a punchy set. Warren G switched the gear of the show again, who continued to build up the crowd.

Veteran rappers Bone Thugs took the crowd from the West Coast all the way to the East Coast in their set. Paying respect to those they have known, starting with none other than Easy-E who signed the group back in the day to Ruthless Records. There was a notable rise in excitement in the crowd as the crowd sung along and bounced throughout the set.

It was then time for the man himself to take the stage. Snoop Dogg emerged from the smoky haze, wearing a Calgary Flames Jersey with his name emblazoned across the back, and the number 19. It was something that was expected for anyone who had followed his prior shows, as he had shown his love for the NHL and WHL Saskatoon Blades earlier in the tour. A nice gesture showing his love for hockey, and Canada, but leaving one to wonder if he would have worn a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey if the tour had made a stop there, given the leafs issue with Snoop’s brand, Leaf’s by Snoop.

With his blinged out microphone Snooped jumped right on the beats and was joined by dancers and of course from time to time his mascot Nasty Dogg.  It was what fans wanted and expected, the over the top money and girls theme. During “Trash Bag” Snoop was accompanied by four pole dances in thongs, that Snoop shot money from his cash gun. The over the top display feeling like something out of a strip club, but again something that the crowd loved. Throughout the night, he was joined by the earlier artists. The crowd was there to party, you could smell it in the air, and Snoop loved doing it as he showed his love for Canada and the city!
