BreakOut West Announces Colin James as Hall of Fame Inductee and Headliner for 2016 Western Canadian Music Awards Show
May 24, 2016, Regina, SK: The Western Canadian Music Alliance is pleased to announce Colin James as the 2016 inductee to the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame, presented by FACTOR. In addition to this honour, Mr. James will be headlining the Western Canadian Music Awards Show at Casino Regina on October 13, kicking off BreakOut West’s 14th year of celebrating western Canada’s talent. Colin James’ return to his birthplace city for the Hall of Fame endowment also marks the birth of BreakOut West itself, which started in Regina in 2003 and featured Mr. James as an awards show performer. Additional artists performing at this year’s more concert-focused Awards Show will be announced in the coming weeks, as BreakOut West returns to its beginnings.
Colin James has worn many hats during his long and storied career. Mentored by the legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan, Colin became a star almost overnight when he first hit the music scene over 27 years ago. Since then, the iconic vocalist and guitar player led the swing revival with his Little Big Band, recorded acclaimed multi-platinum albums, took home 6 Juno Awards and 17 Maple Blues Awards, and performed for the Queen. The chart topper continues to sell out shows across the country to date.
Looking back over Colin’s career, it’s a timeline rich in highlights. His 1988 self-titled debut, featuring his two self-penned hits “Voodoo Thing” and “Five Long Years,” was the fastest-selling album in Canadian history. It won him his first Juno and an opening spot on tour with Keith Richards. His second album, Sudden Stop, featured his hit “Just Came Back,” which reached #3 on the US radio charts and earned him a Juno Award for Single of the Year. Colin was next credited with launching the swing revival, thanks to his wildly popular Little Big Band, which has released four successful albums. He has performed with the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Lenny Kravitz, Albert King, Mavis Staples, Carlos Santana, Buddy Guy, Mick Fleetwood and The Chieftains; and had his songs recorded by artists such as: Lucinda Williams, Johnny Halliday and Maria Muldaur. Even after 16 acclaimed albums, Colin remains at the top of his game, always challenging himself musically.
In many ways Colin has been Canada’s quiet superstar – going about the business of making consistently excellent music, all the while etching out his own unique and important place in musical history. For more information on Colin James, visit him at www.colinjames.com or on Facebook.
