SEPTEMBRYO TURN STRANGER THINGS THEME INTO 80’S POP SONG WITH LYRIC
Calgary electro rock act Septembryo, best known for their comic series of the same name, has covered the Stranger Things theme song. Rewritten as a 1980’s pop song, both the lyrics and accompanying music video include nods to the hit show many fans will recognize.
Inspired by Netflix show’s themes and soundtrack, frontman Michael 8 says covering the song was something he couldn’t resist.
“Before I even watched the show I had multiple fans tell me I needed to see it because it reminded them so much of Septembryo” claims Michael. “From the synth heavy soundtrack and supernatural elements to a number of uncanny similarities, I could understand the comparisons. I was immediately hooked. No stranger to performing scifi themes (including Star Wars, X-Files, Terminator etc) Michael says the inspiration to take on this song hit hard and came together fast.
“I originally had the idea to do it while watching season 1 last year, but soon began working on a new album so nothing ever came of it. When I heard season 2 was about to premiere, I rushed to the studio to write and record the song. Within a matter of days we were shooting a music video in my basement!”
The music video can be viewed on the band’s youtube page (youtube.com/septembryo) and is available for streaming/download everywhere you buy music online.
Making their debut with “The Dreambuilder EP” Septembryo became one of the first musical acts to perform at the Calgary Comic Expo in 2012. The electro rock project continues to combine comic themes and the supernatural with their latest self titled album and comic book. With David Schram (Warner Bros.) acting as producer for the upcoming album “Nightmares”, all (third) eyes are on Septembryo in 2018.
